Resolve
January 1st of 2011, I made staunchly fervent resolutions that withered into impotent whimpers by January 11th. Honest reflection over my history with resolutions reveals similar patterns. No sooner than I give myself a stern talking-to about finally organizing my house or avoiding fast food or finally following a reliable skin care regimen, there I am two weeks later wading through drifts of old fashion magazines to inhale a burger with large fries and fall asleep with a face full of makeup.
This year, I decided to try something a little different. I didn’t want to wake up New Years Day imagining that 2012 would, in fact be my year to accomplish all the things I hadn’t been able to bring into reality the previous 42 years. Instead, I greeted the first day of 2012 without the heartbreak of having to swear off fried chicken.
But even though I had escaped the Resolution Trap, but I wasn’t free. Something about the date January 1 begs us to turn over the proverbial new leaf, and I am not immune to that allure. Rather than wallow in miserably tedious resolutions that will probably take another 42 years to accomplish, I have declared only one thing: No matter what happens, 2012 is a fear-free zone.
We wish all of you a Happy 2012 and success with all of your goals, resolutions, declarations and determinations. Let the fun begin!
